News and Notes
The pandemic has obviously put a cramp in my year as it has for most of the world. Nevertheless, as a one and two-person pod, I have traveled to the Mendocino Coast and the Sierras for masked and socially-distanced shooting and exhibiting several times. Some of this work will soon debut in these pages and, some, the images of Sawtooth Ridge in Bridgeport (at left) are already here.
In July 2020, I exhibited at Coast Highway Artists Collective in their 150th Point Arena Lighthouse show. Two new works, Dunes Day and Roller Derby, were on display. Thanks to Ling Yen Jones, the irrepressible force behind C.H.A.C for inviting me. In August 2020, I exhibited at the "virtual" Art in the Redwoods at Gualala Arts (the largest Art Show on the Mendocino Coast) and was awarded "Best Monochrome Photograph" by the judges for "Services Rendered", an image of the Methodist church in California's favorite ghost town, Bodie. Thanks to "Sus" Susella, Executive Director, Kendra Stillman and the GA Team for putting on this fabulous event under the most trying of circumstances. |
I had two framed 8x10 pieces at the Coast Highway Collective Christmas Fest for December 2019 along with a selection of Fine Art Cards (coast-highway-artists.com). I also exhibited two new pieces, "Evening comes to the bar" -- shot of Gualala at sunset and "Right up my alley" -- a B&W treatment of Bowling Ball Beach, at the Gualala Salon in the same month. "Evening comes to the bar" was awarded one of the six Judge's prizes -- the only photographer so honored. Both pieces are now available in the "Coastal Gallery" on this site. Thanks to all who stopped by for a look at my exhibition in August 2019 at Coast Highway Art Collective in Point Arena with Emma Hurley, ceramicist and creator of "fishwear" wearable art (www.northcoastbrine.com). The exhibit featured many works from this site.

Thanks to all who visited my first exhibition at 215 Main in Point Arena in December 2018. The show featured sixteen framed works from my catalog and was well-received. Unfortunately, due to circumstances too complicated to relate, the best social and artistic gathering place on the Mendocino Coast, was forced to close permanently at the end of my run (there is no connection that I know of). Nevertheless, thanks to Barbara Burkey and Tim Lum for the opportunity to show and 215 Main will be sorely missed.

A selected portion of my work is on sale at the Point Arena Lighthouse gift store in Point Arena, CA. If you are in the Mendocino, the Wine Country or San Francisco area, you should plan to take a drive up Pacific Coast Highway (CA 1) to this spectacular destination to experience some of the most beautiful coastline in the world. The Lighthouse itself can be toured (the view is unmatched), is well-maintained by a non-profit association and has excellent interpretive exhibits. For a special treat, stay at one of the seven well-appointed "Keepers" cabins. Several of the cabins have my work on the walls. For information on the Lighthouse or it's accommodations, go to (pointarenalighthouse.com).
